Kapit Kamay – Alternative Learning Avenue for the Youth was founded in October 2020, amidst the Covid-19 pandemic to encourage an accessible and inclusive education system under the new normal and post pandemic education crisis. KK-ALAY is composed of volunteer teachers, often university students and working professionals who take time out of their days to visit urban poor communities within Metro Manila to participate in Alternative Learning Sessions (ALS).
As of late, KK- ALAY conducts their ALS in the following locations:
Manila:
Leveriza ★
Port Area
Maestranza
Quezon City:
Brgy. Krus na Ligas
What is ALS?
Our Alternative Learning Sessions start by knowing the general population of the partner community to create an appropriate lesson plan for the children. Next, our volunteer teachers are assigned subjects to teach and skills to develop according to grade level. After every session, our volunteer teachers meet with the parents of the children to help further their teaching even after the volunteers have left. Likewise we check on the living conditions of the family to know how further KK-ALAY could partner with their LGU to provide support.
